Initially, when you check out DISH Network and DirecTV services, you may think that there isn’t much of a difference since they both have hundreds of channels available for you to watch.  Sometimes they can also provide you with a satellite TV system the moment you subscribe to them.

No matter how similar they may seem, there are still some major differences when you look closer and list down each of their features. For instance, they have a totally different programming package.
Programming Package

With DISH Network, they offer five program packages.  Their 40-channel programming package rate starts at $19.99 while their “everything” package, or the 350 channel programming goes up to $74.99.

The programming channels vary.  They have news, weather, comedy, drama, kids and toddlers, games and even sports channels where you can also get to view swimmers in their funky trunks.   Their ‘everything’ package covers 25 HD channels, 52 music channels, 31 movie channels, 24 international channels, 75 pay-per-view movies, 60 radio channels and a lot more.  Their local channels however, cost $5 a month when you subscribe.

Now with DirecTV.  They only have three programming packages that initially cost around $41.99 for the 155 channel package.  As for their 250 channel package, it costs around $96.99.  Similar to DISH Network, they have TV shows that are under these categories: movies, comedy, drama, news, sports, variety, weather and games.

Their 250 channels includes 8 HD channels, 31 movie channels, 14 international channels, 60 pay-per-view movies per month and 67 satellite radio channels.  If you wish to subscribe to DirecTV and local channels, just add $3 a month for the fee.

Some people prefer to have DISH Network because they want to have a wide range of channels to choose from.  The most movie choices, the most pay-per-view, as well as the most music channels.

While DISH Network offers the widest range of channels, DirecTV on the other hand has the NFL Sunday Ticket package which DISH Network doesn’t have.  Both of these providers have very similar equipment but DISH has a better offer.  For only $199, you may opt to get their DVR/HD receiver.  DirecTV also has the same equipment, but it costs $499, a lot more than DISH.
