Who doesn’t want to be a rock star? “A brand new house on an episode of Cribs and a bathroom I can play baseball in and a king sized tub big enough for ten plus me” is what Nickelback would say.
For us commoners, this continues to be a far-fetched dream. But for famous celebrities, nothing beats being alone with family and closest friends, away from all the glitz, the glamour, and the paparazzi.
Who else gets to experience the “best of both worlds” but Hannah Montana herself? Lucky gal, indeed. Even if she is just a fictional character in a TV series, legions of fans all over the world adored and admired this teenage girl who gets to bask in her dual roles.
First aired on March 24, 2006 on the Disney Channel, Hannah Montana! the series was created by Michael Poryes, Rich Correl and Barry O’Brien. Twenty-four TV awards and nominations, countless tours, concerts and movies later, the rest as they say is phenomenal history. Its fourth season will be promoted in July 2010 as Hannah Montana Forever.
The basic plot is quite simple. Fifteen-year-old Miley Stewart (played by Miley Cyrus) is the daughter of country singer Billy Stewart (played by real-life father Billy Ray Cyrus). They live at a beach house in California with her brother, Jackson. Just like any other kid her age, she leads a normal life at home and in school. She has her share of life’s ups and downs, the usual teeny-bopper worries since time immemorial. Yet, not everyone knows that she’s the famous pop star Hannah Montana. In fact, only her family and a few close friends are aware of this ‘complication.’
Simple and dark-haired Miley doesn’t want the popularity of Hannah Montana to get in the way of her private life, as most celebrities would complain about. So in a Clark-Kent-and-Superman fashion, she disguises as Hannah Montana with a blond wig, fabulous clothes and accessories.
To thicken the plot, the famous Hannah would get tangled into Miley’s plain existence so enter her two best friends Lilly Truscott (played by Emily Osment) and Oliver Oken (played by Mitchel Musso) who shares all her secrets with her. But mostly, her life as Miley is depicted in situational comedy shown during weekends on Disney’s local channels in both cable network and satellite TV everywhere.
This show’s main draw, aside from following the now immensely popular Miley Cyrus, is that it depicts the hidden desire of the millions of Hannah Montana fans worldwide. Everyone can relate to Miley Stewart having a double take in life and enjoying every minute of it. They all wants to be like her!
